Child Care Scholarship

Overview

The Panther Care Child Care Scholarship provides financial assistance to student parents at 51ÂÜÀò to cover licensed childcare expenses. By reducing this financial burden, the scholarship empowers students to focus on their educational goals while ensuring their children receive quality care. 

This program aligns with the California Community College Vision 2030 initiatives and supports equitable access to education. Scholarships will be available in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 on a first-come, first-served basis or until all funds are awarded.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Enrollment: Student must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA) with a Comprehensive Educational Plan on file.
  2. Financial Aid: Must have a FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application on file (or provide documentation of financial aid ineligibility).
  3. Childcare Provider: Must use a licensed childcare provider verified by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Community Care Licensing Division (CCL).  Student must provide a signed copy of the monthly tuition and/or agreement with the following information listed on the invoice/agreement:
      • Provider name, address and contact information
      • License number (to be verified against CDSS database)

      • Name of student parent or legal guardian

      • Student parent home address

      • Dates of care

      • Total monthly rate or tuition cost

  4. Age Requirement: Child must be 5 years of age or younger.

Scholarship Amounts

Scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s enrollment status and monthly tuition.  Award cannot exceed monthly tuition.

Part-Time  (1–5 units) $350

Application Process

  1. Complete the Panther Care Child Care Scholarship Application below.  Please note that you will be directed to the Award Spring platform where you will be asked to create a profile, if you don’t have one already.
  2. Upload supporting documentation which can include:
    • Financial Aid ineligibility (if applicable)
    • Childcare tuition/agreement from a licensed facility
  1. Reapply each semester for continued assistance.
  2. Students will be notified of award status via their Panther email.

Disbursement

Funds will be released in two payments:  First payment will be made once upon confirmation of meeting all eligibility requirements and final payment will be made upon completion of all attempted units.  

Students must sign a Child Care Award Use Agreement confirming funds will be used only for licensed childcare expenses.
