Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
Dear Campus Community,
51 proudly celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. This month-long celebration gives us an opportunity to honor the tremendous contributions and achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans, while learning about their history, traditions and culture.
As a Hispanic-Serving Institution with more than 50 percent of our students identifying as Latino, we are committed to fostering a sense of inclusivity and belonging among our diverse student body, faculty, staff and surrounding community.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 60 million Americans identify as Latino. As the largest racial or ethnic group in the country, Latinos continue to enrich our nation and shape our future.

Over the next 30 days, we have many activities in store to celebrate and honor Hispanic and Latino history and culture. Events include:
- Hispanic Heritage Kick Off: Noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 17, Rancho Cucamonga campus quad. Keynote address by Professor Laura Santamaría Brady, poem reading by Professor Adam Martinez, live music and cultural dance performances, food (while supplies last) and more activities.
- Chaffey Flix screening of “In the Heights”: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday Sept. 18, Student Life Lounge.
- Cultivating Joy & Resilience Workshop: 12 to 1 p.m. Sept. 24. Join licensed therapist Luis Cornejo for an engaging session on practical, culturally-grounded tools to nurture joy during difficult times. The workshop will touch on Latino mental health, stigma, first-gen/undocumented experiences and more. .
- Selena Karaoke: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday Sept. 25, Student Life Lounge.
- Hispanic Heritage Month and Día de los Muertos Calaveras (skulls) Workshops
- Noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 29 – Rancho Cucamonga Campus – CAA-210
- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 30 – Chino Campus – CHMB 149
- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1 – Fontana Campus – FNAC Quad
