Lower Emissions with Omnitans
51ÂÜÀò students who ride Omnitrans through the Go Smart program reduce pollutants every year in the following quantities:
- Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) – 1.10 tons
- Particulate Matter (PM) - .40 tons
- Carbon Monoxide (CO) – 60.10 tons
Earth Day
Dozens of students, faculty and staff attend 51ÂÜÀò’s annual Earth Day celebration to learn how they can incorporate green practices and sustainability into their lives. Community participants have included Burrtec, Southern California Edison, Omnitrans, the city of Rancho Cucamonga environmental division and more. Participants set up booths, provide information, activities and games for people attending.
Goats
The college contracts with a local shepherd to provide goats for weed control. This method of weed control is environmentally friendly and reduces the need for mechanical weed abatement and herbicide spraying. It also helps to protect the local population of burrowing owls nesting on site.
