Purpose of the Student Support Fund
On behalf of the Board and the MacKenzie Scott Advisory Group, we are excited to announce the opening of the MacKenzie Scott Student Support Fund application period. Guided by MacKenzie Scotts vision that higher education is a proven pathway to opportunity, the Board has allocated $6.5 million for innovative programs that directly support students and create a lasting impact.
The Student Support Fund will be used to launch and/or expand initiatives such as:
- Student scholarships
- Program development
- Apprenticeships and internships
- Training and placement programs
- Emergency financial support
Applications are encouraged for projects that have the greatest impact on the greatest number of students, promote equitable student outcomes, enhance but do not duplicate existing resources, and encourage and accelerate student outcomes. We look forward to proposals that demonstrate innovative thinking and practices to best support our students!

The deadline to submit an application for the 2025-26 academic year is Friday, October 31, 2025.
MacKenzie Scott Gift Advisory Group FAQs
$20 million will be placed into an endowment fund, and the $5 million plus interest (approximately $6.5 million) will go into a Student Support Fund.
The group is tasked with ensuring that the Student Support Fund gift from MacKenzie Scott is allocated in ways that directly supports students and creates a lasting impact.
The group includes up to 8 faculty members, 8 classified staff, 8 managers, 8 students, the executive team, and two rotating Governing Board members. If you are interested in serving when a vacancy becomes available, please contact the ACADEMIC SENATE (for faculty), CLASSIFIED SENATE (for classified), or CCSG (for students) to request your name be considered for appointment.
The endowment advances equitable student access, retention, and success in perpetuity and serves as a lasting legacy that benefits students long-term.
The endowment will be invested following the colleges investment policies. During the first five years (or until the Student Support Fund is spent), earnings will be reinvested.
After the investment period, the Governing Board will review the Advisory Group recommendations on future use.
MacKenzie Scott Funding Application Submittal Process FAQs
The Advisory Group will create a 5-year plan to fund initiatives such as student scholarships, program development, training and placement programs, and emergency financial support. An application has been designed to apply for funding programs of innovative thinking and practices with a focus on best methods to support our students.
The application will open in August and close in October. Applications will be reviewed in November and notifications of award status will go out in December/January.
There are no limits on how much funding one application can request.
Yes, there are no limits on the number of applications one person/department can submit.
Yes applicants who have previously been funded are welcome to apply again in the following year, as long as they continue to meet the programs eligibility requirements.

Yes, a student can submit an application; however, a manager or faculty or classified employee must serve as the project lead.
No, this project may not replace employee work time. However, they may be approved to work on an overtime basis upon approval by their Associate Superintendent.

MacKenzie Scott Funding Application Review Process FAQs
The Advisory Group will evaluate each application using a RUBRIC which is available online. Recommendations must be made through consensus of and only by members of the Advisory Group.
The Board reviews the Groups recommendations, makes final decisions about the use of funds, and announces plans to the college community.
Award notifications will be emailed in December/January.

Funds will be available by end of January 2026.
Awardees will participate in an information session. At that time, information regarding budgets and work plans will be provided.
Yes, the project lead will submit updates every January and June during project implementation. Upon completion of the project timeline, a final evaluation will be required.
