ADN Prerequisites
Simply click on the following informational tiles to begin your path towards a successful nursing career!
What You Need to Know About Prerequisites
- Program requirements can change from year to year. If you stay continuously enrolled at 51ÂÜÀò, you may be able to follow the requirements that were in place when you started.
- Not sure what applies to you? Meet with a 51ÂÜÀò Counselor to make sure you’re on the right track.
- The minimum science GPA requirements (BIOL 20 Anatomy, BIOL 22 Physiology, BIOL 23/23L Microbiology) must be 2.80 or higher.
- The minimum fixed set of general education classes must be 3.00 or higher.
- BIOL 22 Human Physiology and BIOL 23/23L Microbiology must be completed within the last 10 years.
- There is no expiration on any science prerequisite classes for applicants to the LVN to RN Advanced Placement Program.
- You are only allowed to repeat one science class (BIOL 20 Human Anatomy, BIOL 22 Human Physiology, or BIOL 23/23L Microbiology) within the last 5 years.
- A repeat means you took a class, got a grade (A, B, C, D, F or W), and then took it again.
- EW (Excused Withdrawal) does not count as a repeat.
- If your class is older than 5 years and needs to be retaken, that does not count as a repeat.
- This policy applies to classes taken at all colleges, not just Chaffey.
- There is no repeat policy on any science prerequisite classes for applicants to the LVN to RN Advanced Placement Program.
- To take BIOL 22 (Human Physiology) at Chaffey, you must first complete: CHEM 9 or CHEM 10 or one year of high school chemistry.
- If you are applying to the CSUSB concurrent enrollment program or planning to transfer, CHEM 9 (Chemistry for Health Sciences) or CHEM 10 (Intro to Chemistry) is required for Cal-GETC certification (previously known as CSU or IGETC GE certification).
- Advanced Placement exams with a passing score of 3 or higher are accepted to meet some fixed general education prerequisites.
- Submit college board AP exam results to Chaffey’s Admissions & Records Office and see a 51ÂÜÀò Counselor for more information.
- We do not accept CLEP, DANTE, or ‘Credit by Exam’ scores for the science prerequisites. For the fixed general education classes, see a 51ÂÜÀò Counselor for more information.
- Starting Fall 2024, if you already have a bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S. college, you may be waived from taking an Ethnic Studies class.
